Email Fraud/Phishing

Phishing occurs when a fraudster sends out an authentic-looking email asking you for personal information.  Normally there is a sense of urgency involved, similar to phone fraud.  If you receive an email that you suspect is fraudulent, delete it immediately, and to not open it or respond to it.  Remember, financial institutions that you deal with, including WPCU will never ask you for personal information, including passwords.

  • Be suspicious of email attachments from unknown sources, including jokes, e-cards, etc., if you do not recognize the sender.
  • Do not be tricked by warning of “security breaches”, “threats of legal action”, or “expiring passwords”.  WPCU does not send such requests by email, nor would we ever request personal information from you by email.  Contact us directly at 204-944-1033 if you receive any emails addressed from WPCU of this sort.
  • Do not set your email program to “auto-run” attachments.  Always manually check your email and attachments.
