Nominations open for WPCU board of directors
Three positions on the board of directors will be on the ballot at Winnipeg Police Credit Union’s 75th annual general meeting, which will be held in January 2025.
Every year, three of the board’s nine seats are up for election. All three incumbent directors have agreed to stand for re-election.They are Adam Cheadle, Maurice Sabourin and Ron Smolik.
The board and management encourage all members to consider taking on the challenging and rewarding role of credit union director.
New directors require no special financial skills because an excellent training program, which all WPCU directors are required to complete, is provided. You need only to be willing to learn, listen and exercise good judgement.
To hear more about what’s involved for directors on WPCU’s board OR to put your name forward to run for election, please feel free to contact any member of the nominating committee:

We are aware of recent technical issues causing some flash transactions to be declined at some point-of-sale (POS) terminals.
This issue stems from transaction miscommunication between the terminal and the card.We regret any inconvenience this has caused to credit union members.
We are currently testing a resolution and are committed to providing updates as they become available.
Q&A
What is the current issue with credit union debit cards?- Some point-of-sale (POS) terminals fail to properly read the card and some terminals mistakenly think the card is not legitimate and block the tap feature or decline the card to prevent possible fraud. Not all payment terminals are set up the same way, so this issue does not affect all cardholders or all merchants in all places.
Is this a problem with the credit union debit cards?
- The problem is how the card interacts with specific terminals at certain merchant locations. Scope of the issue is still under investigation.
How long will it take to resolve this issue?
- We anticipate an interim solution in early August 2024
